Why does nobody talk about checking the jib angle before the first lift of the day?
I mean, I always did a visual check, but for like a year I never actually measured it against the load chart. Then last month on a site in Spokane, my foreman made me use a digital inclinometer on a 150-ton crawler. The chart said 30 degrees, but we were at 33. That tiny difference changed the capacity by almost 2 tons. Now I check it with a tool every single morning, not just my eyes. Anyone else have a simple step they added that made a big difference?

Ever check your phone's level app for a quick sanity check?

Wait, is that what that weird bubble app does?

Nah I actually use mine all the time and it's pretty handy. @stella904 mentioned the level app and that's exactly what I'm talking about. The bubble thing is just a digital level that works better than trying to eyeball stuff. I've used it to hang shelves and even level out a wobbly table at a restaurant once. It's not weird, it's just a tool that most people don't think to open. Saves you from buying a real level if you're just doing small stuff around the house.
