I finally get why people swear by writing sprints now
I thought the whole pomodoro writing sprint thing was just productivity theater for people who can't focus. Then last Friday I tried 25 minutes with my phone in another room, no tabs open, just me and a messy draft of chapter 6. I wrote 900 words, which is about 3 times my usual hourly output. Has anyone else found that the timer trick works better when you also physically leave your device somewhere else?
The "phone in another room" part is the real trick here, not the timer itself. I've done the 25 minute thing with my phone face down on the desk and it does almost nothing, because my brain still knows it's right there. Once it's in another room, the little hit of panic that I might miss something fades after like five minutes and then the words just come. So my question is, was it the timer that got you to 900 words, or was it the distance from your phone? I'm honestly not sure the pomodoro format even matters if the device is gone.
