Showerthought: I lost 3 hours last week because I kept rewriting my first paragraph instead of finishing the draft
Sat down to write a 1200 word blog post about my trip to Tucson and burned 3 entire hours on the opening line alone. Kept deleting and retyping it, then realized I had only written 2 sentences of actual content by dinner. My rule now is just barf out the whole thing ugly first, fix it later. Does anyone else get stuck on the opening and lose the whole writing session to it?
Barfing out the whole thing ugly first is the only thing that ever saved me from that same trap. I started writing my opens last, after the middle is already done, and somehow the words come out way easier once I know where I'm going.
