Switched from plotting to pantsing halfway through my novel draft
Honestly, I used to outline every chapter with color coded index cards, like 40 of them for a 12 chapter story. But last month in Austin, I hit a wall where my villain's motivation made zero sense with the plan. So I just deleted the outline and started writing from a single sentence prompt, and the story finally breathed. Now I write messy scenes and let the characters argue me into the next beat, which feels scary but works. Has anyone else trashed their plotting system mid draft and felt like they lost control but gained a better voice?
