TIL that reading my own messy first draft out loud on my back porch in Tucson made me cut 200 words in ten minutes
I always thought editing meant staring at the screen and swapping words, but hearing where my own sentences tripped me up showed me exactly what to fix, so now I want to know what weird trick gets other people through their rough drafts.
