A guy at the library in Boise told me his story idea and it's been stuck in my head for weeks
I was looking for a book on plot structure and this older man, maybe in his 60s, saw me and just started talking. He said he's writing a novel about a retired train conductor who finds a single, unmailed love letter from 1947 in an old station locker. He asked me what I thought the character should do next. I've been thinking about that conductor ever since. What would you have the character do with that letter?

That conductor is about to ruin his whole retirement.

My cousin found a war medal in a thrift store once. We tracked down the family and returned it, which was a whole THING. That conductor should try to find the person who wrote it, even if it's just for closure.
