A prompt about a lost dog gave me 9 pages in one night
Last Tuesday I sat down at my kitchen table in Boise with a prompt from a free writing group: a stranger finds a dog with a name tag that isn't theirs. I meant to write a page and go to bed, but three hours later I had 9 pages and my coffee had gone cold. The weird part was the story came out in one straight run, no crossing out, which never happens to me. I think the trick was the prompt had a built in problem, so I didn't have to invent one. Does anyone else have a prompt that turned into way more than you planned?
