Drafted a scene using a random prompt generator on a whim, thought it'd be garbage
I usually write my own prompts from scratch but last month I tried one from r/WritingPrompts about a sentient vending machine. The result was a 500-word short story that actually landed me a small publication credit on a indie zine. Has anyone else had luck rolling the dice on random prompts instead of planning everything out?

Did a buddy of mine try one of those "write a story with the last two things you bought" prompts? He ended up with a horror story about a cursed pizza and a pair of running shoes that somehow got him a free review copy of some indie game.

Is he sure the cursed pizza didn't just mess with his head and make him imagine the whole thing? I'd bet the pizza was just really bad takeout and the shoes gave him blisters that inspired the whole "cursed" angle.
