Group prompts beat solo prompts after I tried both for 6 weeks

I ran a writing circle in Portland where we all worked from the same prompt, then I tried going solo with the same list for 6 weeks straight. The group version won by a mile because someone always reads the prompt sideways and finds an angle I'd never see, like the time we wrote 'the door was locked' and one guy turned it into a cosmic horror piece about a sentient doorknob. Solo, I kept falling back into the same two plot patterns and my output got repetitive fast. Anyone else find that prompts work better when another person explains how they interpreted them?
