Had a chat with a high school English teacher that changed how I approach pacing

She told me she skips whole paragraphs in books if the description drags, and it made me realize I've been over-detailing my scenes. Now I'm cutting 30% of my descriptions in my current draft, and the story actually moves better. Has anyone else gotten feedback that totally flipped your writing process?

Skipping parts trains you to write boring stuff, not to fix it.

lol yeah my first draft of anything reads like a checklist of bad habits. i once skipped a whole section about how the characters meet because i thought "eh theyll figure it out" and ended up with a 3 page scene of two people just staring at each other. boring doesnt even cover it, it was painful to read back. at least now i know that skipping parts just means i gotta go back and write even more awkward filler later.
