Had a convo with a librarian that flipped my perspective on horror prompts
She said 'real terror is losing something familiar, not a monster jumping out,' and it made me realize I've been relying on shock value too much. Has anyone else had a random conversation that totally rewired how you approach a writing prompt?

That librarian really nailed something important. So much of what scares us deep down is that feeling of something being wrong in a place that should feel safe. That kind of dread sticks with you way longer than a jump scare ever could. Makes me want to go back and rework some of my old prompts with that idea in mind.

Piggybacking off that - it's why home invasion stories hit harder than slasher flicks for me. The safe place feeling violated messes with your head way more than some dude with a mask.
