Hit 90,000 words on my draft and it finally clicked
I've been chipping away at this fantasy novel for like 18 months, and last Tuesday I passed 90,000 words. That number surprised me because I usually abandon everything around 40k, but this time the story actually started making sense at that exact mark. The pacing finally felt right, and I could see where the ending was going without forcing it. Anyone else hit a word count that just unlocked the whole rest of your plot?

Is it weird that 90k is exactly where everything clicked for me too? Not saying it's magic or anything, but there's something about crossing that line where you've already proven you can finish the damn thing. The plot stops being this vague fog and starts feeling like a road you're actually walking on. You stop second guessing every scene because you've got enough weight behind you to trust the direction. That's when the ending just shows up, like it was waiting for you to catch up all along.
