Just read that the first 'choose your own adventure' book was published in 1969
I was looking up interactive fiction history on Wikipedia last night. The first book was called 'Sugarcane Island' and it was made by a guy named Edward Packard. He came up with the idea from telling bedtime stories to his kids. It's wild to think that whole genre started over fifty years ago. Anyone know any good modern books that use a similar branching style?

That's such a cool origin story for the genre.

Edward Packer came up with the whole genre just from telling bedtime stories to his kids, that's incredible.

Oh wow, I still have some of those old books! For modern stuff, check out the "Can You Survive?" series, it's basically the same idea but with zombies and disasters. They're a fun throwback.
