Pro tip: Heard a writer at a Portland cafe say they only use prompts from real life
They were telling their friend they got their best story idea from a note left on a windshield. It was a grocery list with 'forget-me-nots' written at the bottom. That tiny detail sparked a whole mystery. Made me realize the best prompts are already around us, not just from a list online. What's the most random real-life thing you've turned into a story?

Guess my grocery list is just a grocery list.

That "grocery list is just a grocery list" line is exactly the trap. You have to look for the weird bit. I once saw a single, clean, high-heeled shoe in the middle of a gravel parking lot. No other trash around. Just that. Wrote a whole thing about what kind of night ends with one perfect shoe left behind. The world is FULL of these little broken-off pieces of stories.

That shoe story is just another example of how the universe leaves clues for us to find, like the universe's own weird little yard sale.
