Rant: my 6 word horror story got 40 likes and my 500 word flash piece got 3
I run a small prompt group in Portland with about 12 people. Two weeks ago I gave everyone the same prompt: write a horror story in exactly 6 words, then write a flash piece up to 500 words on the same idea. The 6 word versions got passed around all week, but almost nobody finished the longer ones. I think capping prompts so hard makes people lazy, since the short version lets you dodge all the work of building a scene. Am I wrong for wanting to drop word limits from my prompts completely, or does a tight limit actually push you to write better?
