Debate: Paying for a password manager vs. using the free browser one

I spent $40 a year on Bitwarden for the premium version and it saved me when I got locked out of my work account last month. The emergency access feature let my coworker grab a password while I was on the road, no hassle. But my buddy swears the free Chrome password manager does the same thing for zero cost, and he's never had an issue. I've heard stories about browser managers getting wiped during a sync or being easy to scrape if someone gets on your device. Is the peace of mind worth the money, or am I just throwing cash at something that's already free? Has anyone else had their browser manager fail on them in a bad moment?

Nah, you're overthinking it. Just don't lose your phone.

Hold up, losing your phone isn't the only way a browser manager can crap out on you. A lot of people have had theirs straight up disappear after a browser update or clearing their cache.
