Hit 10k active users on my blog last month but my traffic tanked 40% after a single Google update
Is it better to focus on building a loyal community or chasing algorithm-friendly SEO when one bad update can wipe out months of growth?

The whole algorithm chasing thing reminds me of when I ran a tiny gardening blog a few years ago. I had this post about growing tomatoes in old tires that nobody cared about until someone on Reddit shared it, then boom - 50k views overnight. But Google kept messing with its updates and my page about soil pH took a dive every single time. So honestly, build the community that actually shows up for you, because algorithms can't ghost you the way they ghost your traffic.

Read somewhere that even big YouTubers are saying the same thing now.

That's a solid point about the Reddit traffic, but how do you actually measure the loyalty part versus the fleeting spike from a viral share?
