Hit 500 compromised passwords in my personal audit last night
I ran a security audit on my old accounts using a password checker tool. Turns out I had over 500 passwords that were compromised in various data breaches over the last decade. Some were from sites I forgot I even used, like an old forum from 2012. That number surprised me because I thought I was careful. How often do you guys check your old passwords against breach databases? I'm going through and changing them now but it's a lot of work.

Damn I did the same thing last month and found 300+ from my MySpace days alone lol. It's crazy how many old forums and random sites get breached and you never even know about it. Yeah the changing process is brutal but worth it, I just rotate through like 10 accounts a night so it doesn't feel overwhelming.

Right, that's exactly what I mean. I had no idea half those old sites even still existed until I got a breach notification. Ended up finding like 200 passwords from stuff I don't even remember signing up for, like that old Neopets forum and a random fan site for a band I liked in high school. The rotation method is smart though, I tried doing it all in one weekend and just burned out halfway through. Now I do maybe five a night while watching TV, makes it way less painful. It's just wild how much of your digital history is just floating around out there waiting to be found.
