Kept finding weird login attempts on my router after setting up a VPN wrong

I tried setting up a VPN on my home network in Austin last month and somehow left port forwarding open by accident. Woke up to 47 failed login attempts from IPs in Russia and Brazil in one night. Learned the hard way that double checking firewall rules is worth the 10 extra minutes. Anyone else have a router config go sideways on them?

Your router log number 47 is actually kind of tame honestly. I once hit 200+ in a single afternoon from a misconfigured SSH tunnel I forgot to close. The scariest part is how fast those bots can be, like they have a sixth sense for an open port. I still double check my firewall rules every time I touch the VPN settings now. That paranoia has saved me more headaches than I can count.

Your bot count of 47 is actually pretty standard honestly, not tame.
