My two-factor app failed during a blackout in Austin, here is what I did
Last month the power went out during a storm. My phone was dead and my laptop had no backup power. I needed to get into my bank account to move money before the outage got worse, but every login demanded a code from my authenticator app. I could not get that code. Luckily I had printed out a sheet of one-time backup codes six months ago and kept it in my fire safe. Took me 20 minutes to find the safe key in the dark, but those codes saved me. Since then I keep a physical copy in my wallet too. Does anyone else rely on paper backup codes, or do you use a hardware key that works offline?

Skip the paper, get a YubiKey and keep it on your keys.
