PSA: My sketchy email habit of checking senders paid off big time today

Almost clicked a bad link but caught it last second, phew.

What made you double-check the sender this time? Some of these scam emails look so real now, with logos and everything. Do you have a way to spot fakes, like looking for typos in the email address? I almost clicked one last week that had my bank's logo but came from a strange domain.

Ugh, it's because everything feels like a performance now. Scammers put on a show with logos and urgent language, just like companies pretend to care with personalized ads. That "strange domain" you saw is the real backstage pass. I check the sender because it's the one thing they can't fully fake. The whole game is making you react before you look. If an email pushes panic or a crazy deal, that's your cue to stop and check where it actually came from.

Consider how checking senders can sometimes lead you astray. In my experience, legitimate services often send emails from domains that look unfamiliar at first glance. Your mileage may vary, but I've accidentally deleted valid account alerts from companies using third-party mailing systems. Scammers have gotten better at mimicking real email addresses, so this method isn't foolproof. Sometimes the real red flags are in the message content, like grammar errors or too-good-to-be-true offers. Take this with a grain of salt, but focusing only on the sender might make you miss important info or even trust a clever fake.
