Showerthought: I blew 60 bucks on an antivirus bundle and my free setup caught more junk
So about 8 months back I got spooked after a sketchy email and went out and bought one of those big name antivirus bundles for 60 dollars a year. Felt real safe for a while, you know? Then a buddy who works IT in Austin asked why I was paying for something my router and the built in Windows stuff already handle. I ran a scan with a free tool just to prove him wrong and it found two pieces of adware the paid one never flagged. Turned out the paid suite was mostly just nagging me to buy more add ons and slowing my old laptop to a crawl. I cancelled before it auto renewed and put the 60 toward a password manager instead, which honestly does way more for me. Not saying paid tools are all junk, your mileage may vary, but I wish I'd asked around before handing over my card. Anyone else feel like the free basics cover more than we give them credit for?
