Tbh, my worst cybersecurity week ever started with a fake invoice email
I clicked a link that looked like it was from a regular vendor, and my freelance design files got encrypted by ransomware. Honestly, it took me two full days of restoring from backups to get back to work. Has anyone else dealt with a targeted email scam that looked super legit?

Fell for a similar fake shipping notice last year. What saved me was having my backup drive physically unplugged from my computer except during my scheduled backup time. Now I hover over every single link to check the real web address, even when I'm rushed. It feels silly but that extra second is worth it. I also set up a separate email just for invoices and client files to keep things apart.

That separate email for invoices is a solid move, @avery_foster31. I've been meaning to do that for years but never get around to it. Does it actually cut down on the spam and fake notices hitting your main inbox, or do the scammers just find the new address too? The physical backup drive is smart, I just use cloud storage and hope for the best.
