That buddy who told me to turn on 2FA last year just saved my Steam account from getting hijacked yesterday

My login got flagged from some random IP in Russia and the code went to my phone instead of them, has anyone else had 2FA stop a breach right before it happened?

Real talk, does one login attempt from another country really count as a "breach" though? An IP address isn't some magic key that lets anyone in. Most of these attempts are just bots scanning open ports or old password dumps. Your buddy probably saved you from a minor inconvenience, not a catastrophe. I've had random login alerts for years from everywhere and nothing ever happened. People act like 2FA is the holy grail, but if someone really wants into your account there are easier ways to get past it.

That exact thing happened to me with my email account last month. Someone from Vietnam tried logging in and Google sent me the code instead of letting them in. It was a total wake-up call for me, now I tell everyone to just do it.
