The coffee shop wifi thing that finally made me turn on a VPN
I was sitting at a cafe in Portland last month and pulled up my bank app on their open wifi without thinking twice about it. A guy at the next table, total stranger, leaned over and said he could see the network name my laptop was broadcasting and asked if I knew anyone nearby could grab my info off it. I went home and checked, and sure enough my laptop was set to auto connect to any open network it had ever seen before. Turned on a VPN that night and turned off auto connect, and honestly I should have done it a long time ago. Anyone else had a random stranger point out something obvious about their setup?
