The library in Omaha had 14 public PCs, and 9 still ran Windows 7 in 2024
I was at the main branch in downtown Omaha last month helping my aunt print some forms. While I waited I counted the computers in the public row and 9 out of 14 were still on Windows 7, which stopped getting security patches back in 2020. The kicker was a sticky note taped to one monitor with the admin password written right on it, something like Library123. A guy next to me logged in and I watched him pull up his bank site with no padlock in the address bar. I told the front desk lady and she just shrugged and said the city handles it. Has anyone here ever tried to push a library or small org to update old machines? I would love to know what actually got them to move.
