My barber in Tulsa asked why I carry a flashlight in the daytime, and his reason for asking changed my setup
I was getting a cut at the shop on 11th and he noticed the light clipped in my pocket and asked if I worked nights. When I told him no, he said he keeps one too because the power went out at his kid's school pickup line last March and he stood there useless for 40 minutes. That got me thinking about why I even started carrying it, and I realized I only grabbed it for the cool factor, never for a real plan. Now I actually check the battery every Sunday. What made you start carrying a light?
Carrying a light every single day because of one power outage feels like way overkill to me. Think about it, your phone has a flashlight built in and you probably have it on you 100 percent of the time anyway. The barber stood there for 40 minutes, sure, but a tiny pocket light wasnt gonna fix the school pickup mess either. Most people go their whole lives never needing a flashlight outside of a camping trip. Its cool gear and thats fine, just admit it instead of making up a survival story to justify it.
