A woman at the Lincoln Park farmers market handed me her dog's leash while she tied her shoe, and it changed my Saturday mornings
I was at the farmers market in Lincoln Park two Saturdays ago, just buying tomatoes, when a woman next to me knelt down to tie her shoe and handed me her dog's leash. The dog was a nervous little terrier mix, and he pressed right up against my leg instead of pulling away. I stood there for maybe 40 seconds, just holding the leash and letting him lean on me. When she stood up she laughed and said he never does that with strangers. It hit me that I've been so busy rushing through my errands that I stopped noticing what's right in front of me. Now I try to go to the market with no list and no plan, and I just talk to whoever is around me. Do any of you have a place you started visiting differently after something small happened there?
My dog would've taken one look at a stranger and bolted for the nearest exit, so that terrier has way better manners than mine. It's funny how the smallest random moment can make you slow down when you didn't even know you were speeding through life. Guess I should stop ignoring the old guys chatting at my corner store and see what happens.
