Can we talk about how my washing machine died on a Tuesday?

Our washing machine gave out mid-cycle last week with a full load of wet clothes in it and a puddle spreading across the basement floor. I spent the evening manually wringing things out and hanging them on every door frame in the house. Has anyone else had a major appliance fail at the worst possible time and found a good repair person or just had to bite the bullet on a new one?

Oh man, I feel you on the wet clothes disaster. But honestly, I'm kind of on the other side with repair people. Called a guy out for a dryer that was making a horrible noise, he charged me 80 bucks just to walk in the door and told me the part would be $150 plus another hour of labor. I ended up watching a YouTube video and fixing it myself for 12 bucks and an hour of my time. Maybe I got lucky, but now I always check online tutorials first before calling anyone.

Sometimes the trick is checking if it's still under a house warranty from the previous owner or your home insurance. A lot of policies cover sudden appliance failures if it's from a power surge or a manufacturing defect. Saved me $600 last year when my fridge kicked it, just a phone call and a quick serial number lookup.
