My $15 herb garden finally looks like something from a magazine

I planted basil, thyme, and rosemary in three small pots back in April, and for three months they looked sad and scraggly. Then I moved them to a south-facing window in my kitchen and started watering them exactly 1 cup every other day. This morning I saw the basil has 12 full leaves and the rosemary bush has doubled in size. Has anyone else had a plant suddenly take off after you found the right spot for it?

Oh, isn't that the best feeling when they finally get happy? I had a little mint plant that just sat there looking sad for months, and then I put it in a spot that gets morning sun and suddenly it was taking over the pot. It's all about that light, I swear... I even read somewhere that plants can tell the difference between a sunny window and one that's just bright. Your watering schedule sounds solid too, I think that's the other big secret. It's like they finally stop sulking and decide to grow.

You said "they finally stop sulking and decide to grow" but honestly I think that gives plants way too much credit. They're not making decisions or having moods, they're just reacting to water and light like a sponge or a solar panel would. I had a fern that "perked up" after I moved it, but really I just accidentally gave it more humidity by putting it near the bathroom vent. It's biology, not emotions.
