PSA: That "easy" gutter fix I tried cost me $300 extra today

I had a downspout that kept clogging on one side of my house in Phoenix. Figured I could save $150 by just snaking it myself with a cheap auger from Home Depot. Spent 2 hours wrestling with it, finally got what I thought was the blockage out, only to find out I actually punched a hole in the elbow joint. Water started spraying sideways into my foundation during the first rain we got this morning. Had to call a plumber out on a Sunday, which ran me $300 for a emergency fix plus a new section of gutter. The whole thing could've been avoided if I'd just spent the money upfront or asked a neighbor who actually knows gutters. Anyone else ever try to shortcut a home repair and end up paying triple?

Yeah the "why do we always learn the expensive way" thing is painfully true. My buddy @paige_west spent like 800 bucks on a fancy drone and flew it straight into a lake on day one because he skipped reading the manual. Sometimes the cheap lesson is the one you really remember.
