Sudden parking brake lesson from a bus driver at exit 12

I watched a city bus driver tap the brake twice before a turn and then mention to a passenger that it 'shakes the dust off the pads' so they grab better in wet weather. Tried it on my sedan during a light drizzle today and the stopping felt way more solid after that first tap. Anyone else got weird driving habits they picked up from watching pros?
