That $40 heated mattress pad I bought on a whim saved me this winter

I live in an old apartment in Minneapolis with drafty windows and my heating bill was getting crazy high last month. Saw a heated mattress pad on sale for $40 and figured it was worth a try to keep warm at night without cranking the thermostat. Honestly, it works way better than I expected and I've been turning the heat down to 62 at night without any issues. My electric bill dropped by about $25 already in just three weeks. Has anyone else tried one of these things or is there a better way to cut heating costs without freezing? I'm curious if a heated blanket would be just as good or if the pad under you is really the key.

under the covers is way better than on top for trapping heat

Honestly @patkelly, this is the TRUTH. Nothing beats being fully cocooned under a big comforter.
