TIL my car's check engine light meant something simple for once

I was sitting in the parking lot at Target last Tuesday when my check engine light came on. My heart sank because I thought it was gonna be a $600 repair like last time. I popped the hood and saw the gas cap was just loose from the morning fill up at the Arco on 5th street. Tightened it up and the light went off after about 20 miles of driving. Still a win because I didn't panic and kept my cool before checking the simple stuff. Anyone else have a time they dodged a big bill with a tiny fix?

Oh come ON, it's not that deep. People say stuff like this all the time and it's FINE.

The Arco on 5th street (I know the one, it's the one with the pump that always clicks off early) actually got me the same way last year. I used to roll my eyes when people said check the gas cap first, figured it was just some internet myth people repeated without thinking. But after I wasted an afternoon at the shop for a loose cap on my old Civic, I totally changed my tune. Now I pop the hood before I even start the engine and give it a quarter turn just to be sure.
