Unpopular opinion: My 10 minute morning tidy-up is better than a big weekend clean

Last week in my apartment, I started just making the bed and clearing the kitchen counter right after breakfast. Some friends say saving it all for Saturday is more efficient, but this tiny win makes my whole day feel less chaotic. Which side are you on?

My old roommate swore by a six hour cleaning marathon every Sunday, and I followed that for years. Waking up to a clean kitchen now completely changes how I handle stress during the workday. I still do a deeper clean sometimes, but those ten minutes in the morning keep the mess from ever getting that bad. It feels less like a chore and more like just taking care of myself.

Oh that's so true! @roberts.aaron really hit on something big here. I've seen this with so many habits, where a huge scary task gets replaced by a tiny easy one. It's like the difference between dreading a giant project and just fixing one small thing right away. That morning kitchen reset is such a perfect example. It stops the problem before it even starts, so you never have to face the awful six hour version. It totally changes how you feel about taking care of your space.

What happens when you apply that same idea to other parts of your life, like your work? I used to let design files get totally out of hand, a huge mess of layers, and fixing it felt awful. Now I just spend five minutes at the end of the day naming groups and putting stuff in folders. It's the same thing, stopping the big scary task before it even exists. That morning kitchen reset proves the system works, you just have to find where else you're letting the mess build up.
