Why does nobody talk about switching from bullet journals to plain notebooks?

I was dead set against it for 2 years, but after my third bullet journal fell apart on my desk in Austin, I grabbed a $5 legal pad and now I actually plan my day instead of decorating it, has anyone else found the plain version works better or is my brain just broken?

The whole decorating instead of planning thing hit me hard because I did the same for way too long. But here's my question, what happened to the third journal that fell apart, did the binding just give up or did it explode from all the washi tape and stickers you stacked on it? Because I had one basically disintegrate in my backpack once and I'm still convinced it was the glue, not my fault.
