My cofounder quit at a coffee shop in Austin, that's when I finally got it
We were 8 months into a B2B SaaS for HVAC companies and burning through $12k a month with zero paying customers. He looked at me over his cold brew and said 'I can't keep lying to my wife about this.' That moment hit harder than any metric or investor feedback ever did, I realized we were building something we'd never even tested with a real contractor. I spent the next 2 weeks calling 40 HVAC shops, 3 said our pricing was insane and 1 actually let me shadow their dispatch for a day. That's when I saw the real problem wasn't software, it was that nobody trusts another tool after getting burned by 5 others. Has anyone else had a partner quit before you finally pivoted to what users actually wanted?

That shadowing part is the real gold, most people skip straight to coding.
