A loose injector line on a Detroit 60 series almost started a fire in my shop

I was doing a routine service on a dump truck in Phoenix when I smelled diesel and saw a fine mist spraying from a line nut. It was hitting the hot exhaust manifold. I shut it down and found the torque spec in the manual was way off from what I'd been using. Anyone else run into bad torque specs on older service manuals?

Hold on, you're blaming the manual? I've used those old specs for years without a problem. Maybe the line was just worn out or the threads were dirty. @rivera.christopher might have gotten unlucky, but I bet the real issue was skipping a step, like not cleaning the fitting first.

Glad you caught it in time. Those old manuals have gotten me before too.

Oh man, tell me about it! Those old manuals are like a treasure hunt where the treasure is a hidden gotcha. You think you're following along fine, then bam, you hit a step that's about as clear as mud. Maybe the guy who wrote it had a few too many coffee breaks, who knows. I still use them too, but I always double check with a newer source if I can find one. Are you sticking with the old ones or switching over to something newer?
