Had a customer curse me out for a fuel filter change
Happened last Tuesday at a truck stop off I-80 in Iowa. Guy in a 2015 Freightliner claimed his truck was running fine before I touched it. I pulled the old fuel filter and it was completely clogged, looked like mud in there. Told him he was lucky it didn't leave him stranded. He kept yelling about me wasting his time and money, said I was scamming him. I showed him the filter with my gloves on, let him see the gunk. He just walked off without paying. Boss had to eat the $45 cost on that one. Any of you deal with customers who refuse to believe their rigs need basic maintenance?

You ever try just handing them the old part without saying a word? I had a guy do the same thing once, ranting about how I was making up problems. So I just handed him his old, nasty air filter and let him feel the dirt caked on it. He got quiet, looked at it, then at me, and just shrugged. Sometimes they just need to see the proof with their own eyes before they believe it's real.

Oh man, that trick works like a charm every time, right? I had a lady swear up and down her brakes were fine last month, so I just rolled her old brake pads over to her in a little cup so she could see how thin they were. She picked them up, felt how light they were, and her whole attitude just changed on the spot. Sometimes you gotta let the customer touch the problem to sell the fix. It's way easier than arguing.
