I used to think those magnetic oil drain plugs were a total gimmick

A guy at the shop in Tacoma kept telling me to try one on my old 7.3, and I finally did about six months ago. When I pulled it for the first oil change, it was covered in tiny metal bits I'd never seen on a normal plug. It convinced me there's something to it, even if it's just catching wear particles early. What's a tool or trick you thought was nonsense until you tried it?

Wow, I saw a video where a mechanic cut open an oil filter and the magnet had a crazy amount of fuzz on it. Totally changed my mind too.

That fuzz is normal, but if it looks like glitter, you might have a real problem.

Yeah @drewjenkins, that glitter thing is no joke. My buddy's old truck started making this awful whining sound, and the oil looked like it had actual craft glitter in it. Turned out a bearing was coming apart and sending tiny metal flakes everywhere. That engine was toast a week later.
