I used to torque every injector hold-down by feel until a 2012 Cummins taught me a $2,400 lesson
Everyone at the shop swears by the snug plus a quarter turn method for injector hold-downs, and I did it that way for a long time. Then I got a 2012 Cummins in with a miss, and I pulled the valve cover to find two injectors sitting loose enough to rotate by hand. Those hold-down bolts need the exact factory torque plus a specific sequence, and guessing gets you a leaking copper washer and a cylinder full of fuel. I started using a good torque wrench on every single one and the comebacks dropped from about three a quarter to zero. The old timers say feel is faster, but how is faster better if the truck comes back on a hook? Anyone else get burned by the feel method before they switched?
