Showerthought: a shop teacher in Dayton told me half his students can't read a micrometer
I was picking up some parts near Dayton last month and got talking to a guy who teaches diesel at the local votech. He said about half the kids coming in can't read a micrometer or a feeler gauge when they start, so he spends the first month just on measuring tools. I always figured that stuff got covered before anyone picks up a wrench. He said shops around here are so short on hands that they'll hire kids who can't measure yet and train them on the floor. Has anyone else seen new hires come in without the basics like that?
