The week my 5.9 quit on I-80 and a $12 part fixed it
Last Tuesday my 5.9 Cummins died on I-80 heading to Cheyenne, and I figured it was the lift pump going out. I limped it to a truck stop, pulled the fuel filter, and it was dry as a bone. Turned out the fuel heater gasket had dried out and was sucking air, a $12 part I had in my glovebox the whole time. Spent four days chasing it with a scanner and a pressure gauge before my old boss said to check the cheap stuff first. What simple thing have you overlooked while tearing into the expensive parts?
