Vent: My 6.7 was throwing a P20EE code so I cleaned the DEF injector instead of replacing it
My 2016 F350 dually started lighting up the dash with a P20EE about three weeks ago. Dealer wanted $800 just to diagnose it and said the whole SCR was probably shot. I was not about to drop $3k on a guess. A guy at the diesel meetup in Amarillo mentioned the DEF injector nozzle gets crusty and causes that exact code, so I pulled it, soaked it in hot water for about 20 minutes, and hit it with some brake cleaner. Truck has run clean for 400 miles now with no codes. So here is my debate: is a $12 cleaning just buying time, or is it a real fix people just skip because shops would rather sell the big repair? Some folks say you are masking a dying pump and it will come back. I say try the cheap thing first before you throw parts at it. Curious what you all think about cleaning vs replacing on the emissions side.
