My drawing tablet pen died mid-commission at 11pm

Ngl, I was 2 hours into a 6 hour piece for a client in Chicago when the pen just stopped registering pressure, and I spent 45 minutes reinstalling drivers before I realized the nib was worn down to nothing. Has anyone else had a stylus nib fail that fast, or am I just heavy handed with my strokes?

Figured this out the hard way a few months back when my cat knocked my spare nib case behind the radiator and I couldn't find it for a week. Ended up using the tablet with basically a flat nub and my wrist started cramping so bad I had to switch to mouse work for two days. The pressure settings thing is real though, I had a driver update once that made everything feel like I was drawing on wet sand and I burned through two nibs in a single afternoon before I caught it. Do you keep a few spare nibs in your desk drawer or are you one of those people who just raw dogs it until disaster hits?

Is your tablet's pressure curve set to a softer sensitivity than what you're used to? I had the same panic once, then realized the driver reset had boosted the curve and I was pressing way harder than normal to get the same line weight. Might be worth checking your settings before blaming the nib itself.
