Shoutout to the gallery owner who pointed out my shadow problem

Went to a small exhibit in Portland last Saturday and the lighting made every piece look flat as paper. The owner walked over and said 'that's your display doing the work, not your art,' so I spent $60 on a proper spotlight rig. Has anyone else had a showing where the room lighting completely killed the mood of your work?

Wait what, $60 for a whole rig? That seems insanely cheap. I dropped like $150 on a single track light last year and it barely helped. But honestly yeah, room lighting can wreck everything. I had a show where the ceiling lights were so warm and dim my blues looked almost black. The curator just shrugged and said "it's the vibe." I ended up bringing my own clamp lights and extension cords like a maniac. $60 though, seriously, where did you find that deal?
