The layer mask lightbulb hit me at 2AM in my home studio

I spent 3 weeks fighting with selections for a portrait series, trying every lasso and wand tool. Then I realized I could just paint roughly on the mask and refine with a soft brush at 30% opacity. Now my edges look clean without spending hours. Has anyone else had that moment where a basic tool suddenly clicked after years of avoiding it?
