Just spent $400 on a local SIM card setup in Bangkok and it was a total game changer

I landed last month and my usual global eSIM was crawling, like 1 Mbps slow. A guy at a cafe told me to go to an AIS store, so I did. For about 4000 baht, they set me up with a 6-month unlimited data plan and a physical SIM. My speed jumped to over 80 Mbps instantly, and I could finally do video calls from my apartment. Anyone have a better mobile setup for long stays in other countries?

How much did you pay for your global eSIM? I used to think they were fine until I tried a local plan.

Yeah, @ward.mason, the real cost for me is the data speed drop. My global one crawls in cities where local plans are just... fast. Makes a huge difference.
