My friend insisted I needed a dedicated travel router for Chiang Mai, and after two weeks of spotty cafe Wi-Fi, I finally caved and bought one.

The GL.iNet Slate I got for $70 has been a game-changer, letting me work from anywhere with a stable connection, so has anyone found a reliable mobile data plan for Thailand?

AIS prepaid is the worst choice you could have made.

@jade226 you got lucky then. AIS caps their prepaid data speeds way too hard for actual work. Tried them for a month in Bangkok and it was fine for scrolling but not for real video calls. TrueMove has been way more reliable for me. Consistent speeds even in busy areas. Plus their tourist SIM gives you a solid chunk of data for half the price of AIS. @jade226 might have had a good run but one person's luck doesn't make it a solid plan. Don't waste money on AIS if you actually need to work from Chiang Mai cafes. The router is the right call but pair it with something decent.
