Talked to a 60 year old van lifer at a trailhead last month. He said something that stuck.

Met this guy in Moab fixing a flat on his old Dodge van. Been living out of it since the 90s. I was complaining about spotty Starlink and he just laughed. Said "I used to drive 45 miles to a library just to check email once a week. You kids have it easy." Made me realize I spend more time stressing about connection speeds than actually seeing places. Anyone else feel like the tools got better but the mindset got worse?

Yeah, okay, but is this really that deep? The guy lived in a van before wifi was everywhere, so what. He made his choices and you make yours. You're sitting there feeling bad about wanting decent internet while you're out exploring, but neither way is better. You're just different people with different priorities. If you liked being disconnected that much, you'd ditch the Starlink.

16 bucks a month for unlimited data on some obscure Mexican carrier is wild to me, @holly_foster, no way that's real. If it is, he basically hacked the system to avoid paying American prices for the same towers. I'm with you though, feeling bad about having a Starlink is just guilt tripping yourself for no reason.
